I was inspecting my bus fleet incognito when an entitled passenger boarded. He sneered at my worn-out rucksack and tossed it off the rack to make space for his golf clubs.

When the driver tried to stop him, the man laughed, threatening to call the owner and have him fired immediately. He dialed the number on the wall with a smug look, but his arrogance vanished instantly when a cell phone started ringing in the pocket of the person standing right in front of him…

Heading Into The Busy Terminal

The autumn wind bit at my exposed skin, so I pulled my faded grey hoodie tighter. I kept my head down and walked briskly toward the busy entrance of the downtown bus terminal.

It was the perfect disguise for the day’s task. No one looked twice at a man in worn clothes shuffling through the crowd.

I blended in perfectly with the daily commuters and weary travelers. Today was strictly business, and I had to look the part.

Waiting In The Long Line

I joined the growing queue at platform four, standing behind a mother wrangling two energetic toddlers. The schedule board flickered overhead, confirming that the afternoon service was on time for once.

I kept my hands in my pockets and observed the people around me. Most were glued to their phones or checking their watches impatiently.

I needed to see how the staff handled the rush. This specific route had received numerous complaints recently, and I intended to investigate.

The Bus Finally Arrives

A large blue coach turned the corner and approached the bay with a hiss of air brakes. I recognized the driver immediately as Elias Cantu, one of our longest-serving employees.

He maneuvered the massive vehicle smoothly to the curb and brought it to a gentle stop. The pneumatic doors swung open with a mechanical swoosh.

Elias stood up from his seat and adjusted his uniform tie. He looked professional and ready to greet the waiting crowd.

Boarding The Bus Incognito

The line moved forward slowly as people began to board the bus. When it was my turn, I kept my gaze low and pulled my hood down further.

I did not want Elias to recognize me just yet. He scanned my digital ticket without pausing to look closely at my face.

My disguise was working exactly as intended. I offered a quick, mumbled thank you and moved past him.

It was crucial that I remained anonymous.
